Your safety while participating in the WCS Run for the Wild is our greatest concern. We are asking for your cooperation with security procedures and advising that all participants and spectators will be subject to bag searches at all points of entry to the Bronx Zoo. In order to expedite the process, we strongly advise that you limit what you bring into the park and if possible, leave items in your vehicle. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
As always, we strongly encourage you to be green and car pool or use public transportation. Consider car service options. Together, we can make a difference!
#2 train to the Pelham Parkway/White Plains Road stop. Walk west to the Bronx River entrance (closest location to registration). The West Farms Square/East Tremont will NOT be an accessible option to the Asia gate entrance. The Asia Entrance will be closed. We strongly recommend the Pelham Parkway/White Plains stop for its proximity to the start line and event activities. Please check MTA schedules online for any updates on changes to train schedules.
Please note that MTA service changes will be in effect on the day of the Run. Participants who need to get to the Pelham Parkway/White Plains Road station from Manhattan will need to do the following: At Times Square, take the 2 train to the East 180th Street station and transfer to a shuttle train that will operate between the East 180th Street and Wakefield/241st Street stations.

Check-in begins at 7:00 a.m. for both the 8:00 a.m. 5K Run and the 8:45 a.m. Family Fun Run/Walk. We recommend you arrive as early as possible. Check-in closes at 8:10 a.m. for the 5K Run and at 8:55 a.m. for the Family Fun Run/Walk.
Check-in procedure will depend on whether you reached your $35 minimum fundraising requirement.
IF YOU REACHED MINIMUM ONLINE BEFORE APRIL 8TH:
You should have already received your bib and t-shirt in the mail. Your race bib will serve as your ID to get into the Bronx Zoo and you can proceed directly to the start area. In the event that you have not received it by mail, please check in at the Day of T-Shirt and Bib Pick Up Tent.
IF YOU REACHED MINIMUM ONLINE AFTER APRIL 8TH:
At Bronx River Parking Lot: Please report to the Day of T-Shirt and Bib Pick Up Tent. You will need to print and bring your prize notification email or Participant Center page to receive your bib and t-shirt. T-shirts will also be available post run on Astor Court.
At Southern Boulevard Lot: Please report to the Express Check-in located adjacent to the baggage claim area. You will need to print and bring your prize notification email or Participant Center page to receive your bib. T-shirts will be distributed post run on Astor Court.
IF YOU DO NOT REACH YOUR MINIMUM ONLINE:
At Southern Boulevard, please report to the Bib Pick Up Tent to submit your donations and receive your bib. T-shirts will be distributed post run on Astor Court. At Bronx River entrance, please report to the Pledge Tent to submit your donation. The mandatory minimum fundraising requirement for this event is $35. Without a bib, you will not be permitted to participate in the Run or have access to the zoo exhibits. In the event that we need to expedite the check-in process, you may be asked to pick up your t-shirt after the Run on Astor Court.
All Media, WCS Trustees, Top Fundraisers (notified in advance) and Conservation Patrons may check in at the VIP Check-In Tent at the Bronx River entrance.
Check in at Bronx River entrance at the Sponsor Express Line. (Con Edison, Montefiore Health System, Coca Cola, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, Spring Bank).
TEAM FiT NATION:
You must check in at the FiT Nation tent located in the Bronx River Parking Lot before participating in the Run. Please have your additional waivers on hand. You will receive your brunch wristbands as well.
Please make sure your race bib is visible at all times. Your race bib allows you general admission to the zoo, a discount on Total Experience passes (for unlimited rides and attractions such as Congo Gorilla Forest, Children's Zoo, monorail), access to the refreshment area, games, music, cryotherapy treatment, beer garden (ages 21 plus only) face painting plus a 10% discount at the Bronx Zoo gift shops, and a $50 discount on Premium or higher level WCS Memberships.
TEAM MEETING AREA
Team members arriving separately can meet at the Team Meeting by the totem pole in the Bronx River Lot.
Sponsor Team Meeting Area is located adjacent to the Baggage Claim area in the Bronx River Lot.
All participants please keep in mind that this race will feature staggered starts to improve the flow of runners on the course. Look for the pace group signs (7 MIN, 8 MIN, 9 MIN, 10 MIN +) held up by staff in lime green shirts along the start line. Faster runners to the front! Once within your predicted pace group wait until your wave is directed to start the run. The waves will be released at regular intervals, with the first wave (7 MIN pace group) leaving at the first starting horn, followed by an additional starting horn for each subsequent start. Because this event is not a competitive or official timed race, runners' race net times will NOT be recorded from when they cross the start and finish line. Please clock yourself and take note of the time you cross both the start and finish line for an accurate 5K time.
We ask that you adhere to all the course marshal's instructions and posted signs and remain only on the running lane. Your safety is our greatest concern.
BAG CHECK-IN & CLAIM
There will be limited bag check-in 7:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (no strollers, wallets or cell phones, please). Baggage check-in and claim will be available in the Bronx River parking lot and the Southern Boulevard parking lot.
Strollers are ONLY permitted in the 8:45 a.m. Family Fun Run/Walk. Those with jogging strollers are asked to stand towards the end of the starting line.
Please be advised that the WCS Run for the Wild event will be photographed, filmed or videotaped or otherwise recorded for future use. WCS, its sponsors and Lead Dog have the non-exclusive right to record your likeness participating in the Run for the Wild event and to use your likeness in all media worldwide in perpetuity, without remuneration, for WCS's, its sponsors and Lead Dog's institutional, educational, and promotional purposes.
Limited spectator space is available. Spectators can purchase tickets at the zoo entrances. Spectators are restricted to the Finish Area in Fountain Circle until the completion of the 5K Run. Discounted Total Experience tickets or General Admission tickets can be purchased online in advance. Member spectators need to have their valid membership ID to gain access to the zoo. Spectators are permitted to participate in post run activities (except for the games, cryotherapy and Beer Garden), but must be accompanied by a Run participant.
POST RUN ACTIVITIES
Your race bib gives you access to the post run activities. For the Beer Garden (9am – 11:30am) you must have a valid proof of age (21+). There will be an advance ID check-in tent for access to the Beer Garden at the Bronx River Lot. Otherwise, ID's will be checked at the Beer Garden. Note you must be born on or before April 7, 1998 for sampling beer.
ON-SITE PLEDGE COLLECTION
The cash and check donations that you've collected can be handed in at the Pledge Tent, located in the Bronx River parking entrance. You can also make additional cash, check or credit card donations that will count toward your fundraising prizes.
FUNDRAISING & RUNNER PRIZES
If you have qualified for prizes based on your personal fundraising success, you will need to print your prize notification email or your Personal Page status and bring it with you on the day of the Run to claim your prize(s). Prizes will be available during post-Run activities in the zoo. You can pick up your prizes at the Schiff Family Great Hall, located behind the Madagascar! Exhibit until 11:30am. Top Runner Prizes: The first three men and first three women to cross the finish line will receive prizes. We ask that you are available for photos at the Winner’s Circle.

We are thrilled to see more people utilizing Facebook as a means to meet their fundraising goals for Run for the Wild. It’s a great way to reach more of your friends and family and tell them all about your efforts to help protect wildlife.
With all of the advances Facebook has made in this area, unfortunately the technology to connect your Facebook fundraiser to the Run for the Wild fundraising page doesn’t exist yet. This means that we have happy helpers behind the scenes manually entering every donation made on Facebook to each individual Run for the Wild fundraising page.
We hit some bumps with this from time to time, though. For example, if the name you use on Facebook is different than the name you used when signing up for Run for the Wild, we will not be able to match up your Facebook page with your Run for the Wild page and your donations will sit in limbo until you reach out and help us connect the dots (email@example.com).
If you do not state that your Facebook fundraiser is for Run for the Wild, we will assume it’s a general fundraiser and those donations will not be attributed to your Run for the Wild page.
One other thing to note: Facebook does not release donations made in real time. The reports they give to us with all of the donations made over the last several days, do not include the most recent day or sometimes two days. So this means it may take a couple of days for your Facebook donations to show up on your Run for the Wild page. Also important to note: on the day of the run, bring your phone (to keep it green) or a printout showing the last two days of Facebook donations so we can attribute it to your Run for the Wild total.
